Robotic Simple Prostatectomy

Dr Geoff Coughlin uses this advanced technique to treat Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia.   It is an excellent treatment option for large benign (non-cancerous) prostates causing voiding/urination problems.  More traditional approaches such as TURP or Laser Prostatectomy require instrumentation of the urethra (water pipe) via a cystoscope for prolonged periods, which can lead to urethral stricture complications. This is avoided by performing a robotic simple prostatectomy.

The procedure involves excising the Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia completely with robotic surgery.  The unaffected peripheral zone of the prostate is not removed and therefore the risk to urinary control and erectile function is very minimal.  The procedure is best suited to large (>80gm) prostates.
