PSMA PET Scan
PSMA PET scanning is relatively new and one of the most exciting developments in prostate cancer imaging in recent years. It has seen rapid uptake by clinicians in a short period of time. PSMA PET/CT is the best and most specific tracer for nuclear medicine imaging of prostate cancer available. It detects cancer within the prostate as well as spread to other sites of the body such as lymph nodes and bones.
It is far more accurate than other forms of imaging such as bone scans and conventional CT scans. It has been a major advance with respect to imaging prostate cancer both within the prostate (primary tumour) and spread outside of the prostate (secondary tumours).
