Robotic Prostatectomy
Radical Prostatectomy is the most common treatment chosen by men in Australia for treatment of localised prostate cancer. It involves removal of the entire prostate along with the attached seminal vesicles and part of the vas deferens. The vast majority of radical prostatectomies in Queensland, Australia and the United States are performed robotically.

Dr Coughlin Co-Authored the worlds first randomised control trial comparing robotic and open radical prostatectomy. The early outcome data from the trial was published in 2016 in the prestiges medical journal the Lancet. The early outcomes showed that robotic prostatectomy reduced blood loss, time in hospital, intraoperative complications, postoperative pain and psychological distress while without compromising on the oncological or functional results of the operation.
The robotic surgical platform allowed complex surgery to be performed in a minimally invasive fashion. For radical prostatectomy this provides a safer and nicer way to ongoing this surgical treatment.
